DES MOINES, IA — Thanks to the charitable ways of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 347, a dozen Iowa schools and organizations won the grand prize of free Fair-Play scoreboards. The Des Moines, Iowa-based union has now bought 24 scoreboards as part of the “Score” contest in the past two years.

West Central Valley High School in Stuart, a recipient of one of those 24 models, celebrated the installation of their basketball scoreboard in a school assembly on Friday, October 10th. After school officials lit the BB-1660-4 model scoreboard for the first time, West Central Valley booster club president Deb Baker, IBEW 347 business manager Gerry Granberg, and KCCI News Channel 8’s Randy Vonnahme and Andy Garman spoke to an enthusiastic group of students and faculty.

KCCI News Channel 8 featured the “Score” promotion prominently and dedicated parts of three live telecasts to announce the 12 winners of this year’s contest.

The annual scoreboard giveaway is one of many examples across the country in which Fair-Play’s scoreboard sponsorship program with the IBEW is benefiting local schools and organizations.
