Position: Electrical/Computer Engineer
Reports To: Engineering Manager
Qualifications: • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent • 2+ years applicable experience in mechanical design • Experience with CAD; preferably in 3D Inventor or Solidworks • Hands-on mechanical aptitude • Excellent verbal and written communications • Project management experience a plus
Responsibilities: Trans-Lux Corporation is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer for its Des Moines, Iowa location. This position will assist in the development of our digital billboard and scoreboard product lines. Engineers at Trans-Lux work on challenging and rewarding projects in the pursuit of satisfying our customers’ needs and requirements. Those candidates who meet our requirements will provide conceptual designs and project estimates at early stages of a project and will have various design responsibilities depending upon the needs of future projects. Design responsibilities will encompass structural, sheet metal, and thermal management aspects. Our engineers are required to effectively manage multiple aspects of complex projects to guide the successful execution of our team’s goals. Trans-Lux engineers enjoy the rapid innovations in technology and use some of the latest design and analysis tools, all while working in an environment with a rich 87-year history of providing quality products and services. Solution-oriented engineers will appreciate working in our collaborative environment (between both co-workers, customers and management) that can only be found in a small firm. We are a hands-on design team, where team members can watch a design go from 3D space through our factory floor and on to a satisfied customer. Essential Job Functions: • Provide technical pre-sale consulting to Sales department and customers • Assist in estimating the costs and profitability of large projects and designs • Define customers’ needs and manage the successful execution of those requirements from multiple aspects of the project • Provide mechanical designs of new products with emphasis in: sheet metal, structural, and injection molded plastic. • Customize designs of existing products for customer-specific requirements • Perform structural design and analysis for products, prototypes and installations • Perform heat transfer and thermal modeling of electrical systems • Analyze and optimize designs for lowest production cost, and implement improvements as necessary • Manage multiple projects of varying complexity at a given time The successful candidate will be coached by a team with experience in sheet metal design as well as Autodesk Inventor / ANSYS 3D design and stress analysis software. Time with this team can count towards achieving an Iowa Licensed Professional Engineer designation.

Position: Director of Manufacturing
Reports To: General Manager
Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology, Engineering, or related degree is required, or equivalent combined education and experience. Knowledge of LEAN Manufacturing operations is a plus.
Responsibilities: Director of Manufacturing Fair-Play (a division of Trans-Lux Corporation), is seeking a Director of Manufacturing for our facility in Des Moines, Iowa. Desirable candidates must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a track record of strong leadership. A minimum of 10 years of management experience with progressive responsibility is required, with a minimum of five years of production/factory experience. Individual must possess knowledge of electronics, circuit board assembly, RF control, and both high voltage AC and low voltage DC wiring. A bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology, Engineering, or related degree is required, or equivalent combined education and experience. Knowledge of LEAN Manufacturing operations is a plus. The Director of Manufacturing will be responsible for leadership of Sheet Metal Fabrication, Sheet Metal Assembly, Paint/Graphics, Electrical Assembly, Final Electrical Assembly, Packing/Shipping, Purchasing, Stockroom, Planning/Scheduling, Help Desk/Repair Lab/Dispatch. This individual will have direct impact on customer relations and must be skilled in high level negotiations. In addition, this individual will oversee the facilities and equipment and will be responsible for financial/budget control for all reporting departments.
